Jeanie Marie Buss (born Jeanie Marie Buss) is an American woman who is a businesswoman. She is the owner of control of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association and currently serves as its president. Buss is an California native who grew in a well-off family. Jerry Buss' father was an entrepreneur in real estate who went on to own the Lakers along with other sports companies. Their relationship ended in 1972 which made her feel that she was emotionally abandoned. When she was 19 years old, she began working for the family's business as general manager of the Los Angeles Strings professional tennis team. The team was later renamed the Los Angeles Blades professional roller hockey team. She also served as head of the Great Western Forum before assuming the duties of the vice-president of the Lakers. Buss along with her five brothers and sisters and their father who was the owner of the Lakers and was their controlling shareholder up to his death in 2013, took over this ownership through a trust. Each of them had the same vote rights. She took on the role of president for Los Angeles Lakers. Los Angeles Lakers.
